Andre Rieu and his orchestra have been, for more than 15 years, one of the great popularisers of classical music. Their shows - always sell-outs around the world - are a kind of Classical Spectacular - lights, camera, action, dancers, parades, balloons, bonbons... all the whizbangery and extravagance you can imagine. Following the continued response that follows broadcasts of his TV specials, we are embarking on a whole program of Rieu - on TV and radio. The program is launched with everything from La Paloma and the Godfather theme music to the Barcarolle from "Tales of Hoffmann" and the beautiful slow movement of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto. Complete with strings and chorus, this is a lush and colourful fantasy of sounds.
